Mounted Games

Mounted Games at Northside

Mounted Game are aimed at giving horse and rider a fun day out, while improving their co-ordination and confidence. This phase is for the rider with the average horse, the person with the trail horse and the highly competitive horses, who would like to have a day out and some competition. The games and challenges will help you and your horse develop agility, co-ordination and confidence in different situations.

Mounted Games were the inspiration of H.R.H. Prince Philip. When Col. Sir Mike Ansell was Director of the Horse of the Year Show, Prince Philip asked if he could devise a competition for children who could not afford an expensive, well-bred pony, and in 1957 the Horse of the Year Show, then at Harringay Arena, staged the first Mounted Games Championship for the Prince Philip Cup - it was an immediate box office success.
